Lessons Learned

I recently made the decided to leave “The Corporate World” after spending 25 years in progressing positions within the same industry.  It wasn’t a decision I took lightly; in fact, I had spent months (maybe even years) considering what else was out there.  I had a successful career, had made it to the Director Level in a large, well-known company and was doing well financially.

So, what changed?  I’d like to blame it all on Covid-19, but the reality is of course, a little different than that.  While I had been considering other corporate opportunities along the way, I had also developed a passion for anything health related.  Over the last couple of years, I had taken numerous courses in Health Coaching and became certified as a Personal Trainer and Registered as a Health Coach.  I had also done some Personal Training and Team Training in the evenings at our local CrossFit Box.

When Covid-19 hit, it gave me the opportunity to slow down and really think about what the next chapter of my life would look like.  Our company also happened to offer a Voluntary Separation Program at the same time; the stars were aligning!  I decided to enrol in the program, so that I could take a mini break to spend time with my family and pursue my passion for health, fitness and wellness.

Since then, I’ve had time to reflect on some of the key lessons I’ve learned; both professionally and personally over the last 25 years working in the corporate world:

  1. Health should always be your #1 Priority.
  2. Family First – Always.
  3. Don’t live your life in FEAR or let FEAR control you.
  4. Don’t ever put limits on yourself or let others put limits on you.
  5. Think ‘Why Not Me’? And ‘Because I Can’!
  6. Try new things and challenge yourself – Always!
  7. It’s OK to be uncomfortable – when you are, you’re learning and growing.
  8. It’s OK to make mistakes – that’s how you learn!
  9. Experiences are always better than STUFF!
